Chapter 6: Ecuador

CHAPTER 6: ECUADOR After the bar closed, the rugby club bought an old duplex and opened a clubhouse in New Orleans, not too far from Maple Leaf Bar. Barry, a rugby player who had rented Steve's room in Spilfters', was hosting his bachelor party in the clubhouse . Two guys with shotguns came in, had everybody lie on the floor, and robbed everybody and everything - including tv, stag films, pot, and any hard liquor. We still had keg beer.  When the police came, everybody had a different description of how many robbers, what kind of guns, what they were wearing, which way they came in, how they left, ... During my career I taught on five continents. Each place I lived inspired different emotions,  and each changed me. If I had come to each experience at a different time in my life, my feelings about that country, and the job there would have been different. My first overseas teaching job was in Ecuador.
